Now more than ever, the home that Saint Louise House provides is giving mothers and children the safety and stability that they deeply need. We need our community’s support to continue serving one of the most vulnerable populations in Austin: women and children overcoming homelessness.
Being safe at home has taken on a new meaning for each of us. At Saint Louise House, safety at home means stability, a familiar place, certainty about shelter and physical protection. More than a landing pad, “home” at Saint Louise House offers a launching pad – a place where families can look beyond where they will sleep tonight but rather where their dreams can take them in the future.
Although they have newfound security thanks to Saint Louise House, families are experiencing many unknowns. Most mothers are experiencing job loss, childcare and school disruptions, and the daily stress that comes with lacking personal transportation, technology options, and savings.
In response, our team has amplified our support. This has included waiving rent, stepping up individualized services, increasing our distributions, and – soon – supporting access to reliable technology.
Like everyone, our plans have changed – including the postponement of one of our most important fundraising efforts of the year (our Weekend of Giving). We are working hard to ensure stability and continuity, while also recognizing the deep need for our services to grow. The families on our waiting list are counting on us. We started this year poised for expansion, and while we need to adjust some plans, we are determined to continue increasing available housing and services this year. Support is needed more than ever to help.
