This year we’ve enjoyed walking down memory lane of Saint Louise House’s first 20 years and recognizing all of you who helped get us to where we are today.
But while we celebrate what Saint Louise House has become over the past two decades, we’re not standing still. We continue to evaluate what we do, and how we do it, so that we can make changes, additions and improvements in order to better serve our families – they’re what Saint Louise House is all really about.
This Thanksgiving month is the ideal time to give a Texas-sized shout-out of gratitude to the hundreds, if not thousands, of volunteers, donors and other supporters who have supported the work of Saint Louise House during our 20 years of existence.
On a rainy day 20 years ago, five families, most staying at the Salvation Army’s family shelter, packed up their few belongings, took their children by the hand and became the first to walk through the South Austin door of Saint Louise House to start new lives.
“Community,” more than any other word, defines Saint Louise House. Not just the mothers and children who find a safe haven on our campuses, but also our volunteers and supporters.

A lot has changed at Saint Louise House over the last 20 years. We’ve grown from serving five families in rented apartments to serving 42 families in two agency-owned apartment complexes.
Over the past two decades, 445 children have arrived at their new Saint Louise House home scared and uncertain. They are the seeds of our garden.
We celebrate May with a tribute to the mothers of Saint Louise House. Over the past 20 years, 204 mothers have had the opportunity to transform their lives at Saint Louise House. While each story is different, every mother is strong, resilient, committed and determined. They have all taken the challenges of their lives and turned them into victories.
