SLH Moms Developing “Cash Confidence”

Saint Louise House in its work of empowering women provides programming on a regular basis throughout the year.  This fall we partnered with the Financial Literacy Coalition of Central Texas (FLCCT) to provide an 8-week “Cash Confidence” series covering everything from bank basics, checking and savings accounts, to credit and loans.  Saint Louise House moms have reported an increased awareness of where their money is being spent and have been able to prepare for and set financial goals.  One mom was able to begin saving money for her son’s birthday gift after making small changes to her spending habits after the first group session!

The groups have provided an opportunity for moms to ask questions about their financial circumstances and get reliable information about borrowing options, predatory lending, and credit, which has been an invaluable learning experience.  The FLCCT groups have contributed to the SLH mission of empowering women with children to overcome homelessness by providing financial literacy skills that program participants can use as they save money, reduce debt, repair and build credit, and purchase cars or homes in the future!
