There’s an buzz of excitement in the air at Saint Louise House because who can’t help being excited about starting school with a new, cool backpack and shoes that light up? Thanks to the Assistance League of Austin’s program, Operation School Bell, every school-age child from Pre-K to High School at Saint Louise House received new clothing and shoes. The MOMS Club of Southwest Austin provided 44 complete sets of school supplies and another mom’s group hosted a “thrift shop” to supplement clothing needs. As a nice little extra, the generous donations from Crawford Electric Supply Company and the St. Vincent dePaul Society of St. John Neumann Catholic Church helped provide $10 gift cards for each child so moms could have the experience of shopping for any last minute needs. As one young child told a case manager, “I’ve never gotten THIS much stuff before!” Another mom held back tears as she picked up her children’s supplies and admitted she’d been worried about how to provide for the school needs of her whole family. Supplies. Shoes. Clothes. Smiles. We’re ready for another year of learning at our “House!”
