As 2010 comes to an end, we at Saint Louise House would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to every person who has accompanied us on our 10 year journey. Because of your years of commitment and support, more than 100 women-led families have been served through our supportive housing program. Currently Saint Louise House is home to 79 mothers and children.
2010 has been a year of blessings for Saint Louise House. First and foremost, we celebrated a decade of service empowering women with children to overcome homelessness. With each year that passed, we grew smarter and wiser, learning mostly from our families, the best way to provide supportive housing for mothers and children. As the economy weakened, the number of homeless families in Austin grew faster than any other homeless population. Saint Louise House responded to this need and acquired a second property with 24 additional apartments complete with a beautiful community building, raising our housing capacity to 46 families.
In addition to growing in size, we have enhanced our supportive services and resources. Saint Louise House residents can now access on-site employment services through a new partnership with Goodwill Industries of Central Texas, and our licensed master social workers are providing on-site counseling. We have significantly grown our empowerment workshops for mothers, and we recently introduced a children’s program. We are pleased to say that more than 50% of mothers living at Saint Louise House are participating in an educational program. Our program goes beyond shelter and temporary fixes; mothers are finding and securing their dreams, for themselves and their children.
As our leadership and staff work to fill our capacity, we stay true to the values of collaboration and dignity that have served us well for a decade. We also understand the importance of sustaining our work and remaining financial sound. We have been working tirelessly to raise the funds needed to build our capacity for 46 families, as we continue to enhance our supportive services and maintain our apartments and properties.
As you and your family discern your giving opportunities this holiday season, please consider making a monetary gift to Saint Louise House. Your generous gifts will provide a long-lasting contribution to our community. Thank you for your continued support of Austin families. We wish you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
